Very YSL Palette: Swatches & Review

A Duty Free exclusive palette, YSL's international makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds took the traveler's lifestyle as inspiration to create the Very YSL Palette.
with 4 eyeshadows, 2 lip colors, a blush/highlighter plus 3 applicators, it's a steal at SGD68 (approx. USD54)

The patent fuchsia case with the gold plated YSL logo is reason enough to get this palette if you are a packaging junkie like me. :P
The chic palette is safely housed inside a very durable box with cardboard lining to provide more support for its fragile content.

I love how thin it is compared to other travel palettes I saw at DFS (Dior, Lancome). To those interested in the dimensions, palette size is 13cm (length) x 6.5cm (width) x 1.4cm (thickness). It easily fits inside my cosmetic pouch.

palette size compared to a BB Torch

with subtle cheek and eyeshadow shades, a full makeover can be achieved especially when the bold lip colors are swiped onto the lips.

swatches:
sheer pink blusher with gold micro shimmer, creamy pink & fuchsia lipsticks, shimmery rose, shimmery lilac, taupe & violet eyeshadows.

The colors in this palette are rather sheer save for the darkest eyeshadow and the lipsticks. The blusher shows up when layered on, but I think it is more of a highlighter to enhance (a more pigmented blush) and add glow to the cheeks. I like to think of it as a highlighter version of NARS Orgasm.

The eyeshadows are mediocre I must say, the texture is not as smooth as other eyeshadows I have tried, but to be fair, the 4 shades complement each other as well as the whole palette. I can definitely pull off a whole look with this, all I need is base makeup and mascara! :)

I hope this helps all the traveling lovelies, who might be considering this palette.

Happy Monday!

G

Singapore Haul!

My cosmetics shopping was restricted to brands exclusive to Singapore, and I'd like to think it was quite a success. The blogger babes were a big help, always telling me "don't buy here la, buy in Hong Kong!" Thanks for the restricted enabling ladies! You know who you are <3

Sephora loot:
Bath time buddies from Soap & Glory. Spy that BREAKFAST SCRUB? It smells like pancakes drizzled with maple syrup. OMGee, truly a feast for the olfactory senses. Im not kidding! One sniff and I was sold. The bulkiness didn't stop me from putting it into my basket.

Sephora Waterproof Jumbo Eye Pencils, a DiorSnow BB cream sample and fresh SUGAR Lip Treatment in  Honey.

Watson's
I got the matomage Utena Hair Styling Stick for my stubborn stray hair (I read that the Green colored packaging is for those with long and thick hair) and a DHC Platinum White foundation base in beige,  highly recommended by blogger pal Elaine.

Magazines from Kinokuniya:
purchased Voce & ViVi with member discount. Thanks Lynn! ^_^
GLA was given to me by sweet Stellar when we met up in Kuala Lumpur.

The Make Up Store
This is my first encounter with the Swedish brand, their simple black look sends off a very professional feel both in the store all the way to the packaging, which is comparable to Makeup Forever. I got a fresh and vibrant smelling perfume and 2 holo polishes which I am so excited to swatch for the lovelies!

Changi T3
spotted the L'Oreal Infaillibles (SGD 14.30) on 30% discount, took advantage of the offer and grabbed all the remaining shades! I was told that these have sold out as of writing. *lucky G*

also managed to get the prettiest looking YSL travel palette, Stellar enabled made me try hers back in KL and I really liked the color and texture of the lipstick. I can't get over the patent fuchsia packaging, it looks and feels luxurious, it can pass as an über chic iPhone case!

I'm slowly picking up my pace with blogging, and definitely getting my groove back... hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!

What's In My Bag

A very popular article for bloggers and A-list celebs alike, a "what's in my bag" post/article feeds the curiosity of people nosy enough to care what you are toting around town. hahaha! *kidding!* -don't feel bad, I'm guilty of that too! :P
I've been asked by some readers to do a "what's in my bag" post, sorry it took me forever to put up!

I'm currently using my MbMJ Sketchy Miss Marc zippered tote, tell you why later ;)

YSL Rouge Volupté in 26 Tender Peach + 8 Interesting Questions Tag

Patience is a virtue indeed. At last (after a while), another YSL Rouge Volupté for my collection! Some of you already know that YSL has been pulled out of Rustan's (our local department store) indefinitely. That is why I got so excited when I saw YSL cosmetics at Duty Free when I was going home from Singapore. Although products and colors/shades are very limited, I'm still happy as a clam because I got RV#26 Tender Peach which I have been lemming for so long. :)

Nails Inspired by YSL's Fall 2010 Couture Manicure

Being a nail art FAN, emphasis on being a FAN because I don't think I have the hands for those exquisite nail art some bloggers do, but I appreciate so much. It was love at first sight (not minding the photoshopped fingers of the hand models - no hand lines and wrinkles, really?) when I came across the promo pics of YSL's Fall 2010 Couture Manicure "Rock & Baroque" which will be launched this August. I liked all the combinations, gold and plum, turquoise and purple, orange and fuschia except the pink and white which I think is boring.

Last night I gave it a try. I took a quick scan of all the nail lacquers I have, and decided on OPI's Jade is the new black and Curry up don't be late. Base coat from The Face Shop, topcoat is Seche Vite.

photobooth snap of me and my french tips :)

here's a close up, I'm afraid to clean the sides because I'm a klutz and I might ruin the whole thing. hahaha! :P
I can't believe I pulled it off! I did my own french tip manicure. Patience is key. *dancing in glee* I'm definitely going to practice more to improve my nail art skills.

next time, I'm going for this style:
Belle du jour, turquoise and purple

Are you a fan of the french tip? :)

iWant: Cream Shadows

Lately, I've been constantly thinking about cream shadows, I don't own a lot of them, just one pot from Coffret D'or which I adore (I usually use it as a shimmery base for powder shadows) and I actually have some duos from ELF too, which are quite nice BUT (and thats a big one) I have one major concern, they crease like crazy and its not a pretty sight when they do. Living in a humid climate, what's the point of getting cream shadows that crease when they're supposed to give you long lasting pigments which should last until you take it off? Imagine having a really nice date out in the park and your date's like, what happened to your eyelids? Uhuh.

Hence, my cream shadow lemming list! :)

Note: The colors in the pots/photos are not necessarily the ones on my list, I just got lazy to look for the exact color photos for some of the products. hahaha! Photos from Sephora.com ;)

Shu Uemura Pearl Light Pink, MUFE Aqua Cream #21 Turquoise, Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in RSVP and Skinny Jeans

YSL FARD LUMIÈRE AQUARÉSISTANT Water-Resistant Eye Shadow in #3 Golden Fern and #19 Riviera Blue, Dior in Undressed Beige, Shiseido Hydro Power Eyeshadow in H7 Green Exotique

Nars Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Camargue and Madagascar, NARS The Multiple in Orgasm

What cream shadow product brands have you tried and would really recommend? I would appreciate the suggestions! :)

Puny Loot: Estēe Lauder + YSL

I'm being really good right now downsizing hauls and controlling myself that I cannot want another blush or eyeshadow palette. What I really needed was a new brightening moisturizer to replace my now empty Kanebo Blanchir Milky Conditioner - which i loved 'til the last drop.

My puny loot

Estēe Lauder Cyber White EX
Extra Brightening Milky Lotion
got this at Marrionaud, Mall of Asia; tagged price is Php3,300 but I got it for Php3,000 (approx. $63) after discount.
The product is made in UK.

"not all spots are created equal" -
will this milky lotion live up to its promise of brightening and preventing sun spots? I sure hope so!
I must say, this milky lotion is heavily scented compared to the Kanebo Blanchir which smelled like milk and was more pleasant to my olfactory sense.  I was afraid my skin would break out with this, but after a few days of using it (day and night), my skin is still clear, just brighter. Hmm, I guess its effectively doing its job so far! :)
But I'm not repurchasing as I find the scent too heavy for a facial moisturizer, I might go back to Blanchir after finishing this.

YSL Rouge Volupte #4 Sweet Honey
Php1,550 at Rustan's Shangri la

swatch:
One of my favorite lipsticks, YSL Rouge Volupte is very pigmented, plus it has SPF 15 and can I just say it glides on like butter? It does. So smooth and creamy! Sweet Honey is a warm beige shade, really nice color to pair with peach and coral blushers and warm eyeshadows.

Oh and just in case some Manila beautyholics are wondering, yes YSL got extended until further notice, but there are no more stocks arriving (sad!) So if you want to stock up on YSL cosmetics, you still have time. :)

YSL l'amour + Lunasol Lip Brush Ex N

If I were to pick one label to live out of for the rest of my life, it would be YSL. I love everything about  it, the fashion, the bags, the shoes, Stefano Pilati and of course, i lalala-love the cosmetics and the gold packaging? Can you say luxe? ;) That's why I got a bit sad when SA Aaron told me that the YSL counter in Rustan's will be taken out for a while to prepare for Giorgio Armani cosmetics. Its such a bittersweet feeling. But hey, absence makes the heart grow fonder right? We'll see.

I have acquired a small collection of YSL cosmetics in my beautyholic life, but what i love most are my Rouge Volupte Lipsticks. They glide on like butter, super pigmented, has SPF 15 and long wearing too! If you like putting it on straight from the tube, try it with a lip brush, it will make the application super easy and it will give you a smoother, nicer finish. I use a Lunasol portable lip brush made with 100% Kolinsky hair - its ♡!

Lunasol Lip Brush Ex N

YSL Rouge Volupte - whoever designed the packaging is a genius!

#2 Sensual Silk - a creamy pinkish  beige

#19 Frivolous Pink - a midtone pink with blue undertones

swatches: left #2 Sensual Silk, right #19 Frivolous Pink

I still want to get #1 Nude Beige, 4 Sweet Honey, 16 Red Temptation and 26 Tender Peach. Have you tried YSL's Rouge Volupte? What's your favorite shade?  ^.^

TGIF! Shu Uemura + Paul & Joe + YSL

Lurvey and I went out shopping @ Rustan's Makati yesterday and look what I got! 2 new lippies! I've been good today (hence, the mini-haul) because the BF was with me all throughout when i was shopping for new cosmetics. hehe. I only got the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil which I need and the Paul & Joe Disney Ed. Blush in 02. Oh and the 2 new lippies I was talking about. Here they are...

I got the 150ml. Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Balancing Cleansing Oil Fresh (Php1,700), it suits combination to oily skin types, i was actually buying the brightening one which i ran out of but, i smelled this and it smells like cherry blossom so i got it instead. :) They say it helps to remove dead skin cells and tighten your pores too. :) I tried it last night and it works really well on me. Its a pleasure to massage on the face because it glides on the face smoothly because its oil and it smells nice. :)

Here I am after cleansing. (please excuse my gazillion moles and blemishes, im working on banishing them - the blemishes i mean. hahaha) Makeup free! I feel refreshed! ^_^

Paul & Joe Disney Edition Face Color 02 (Php1,800) I could not resist any longer, i had to get it already! It gives out a nice rosy pink color. I can't wait to use it!

Paul & Joe Limited Edition Lipstick C in 063 - Reckless (Php1,450)
My very first RED lippie. Im happy that its very wearable, not loud at all! It fits my personality. Thank you SA Lailyn for helping me find the right red. :)

YSL Rouge Volupte 19 - Frivolous Pink (Php1,550)
A very Barbie-ish pink, gorgeous! The Rouge Volupte line is very creamy and soft, easy to wear. I find it a bit drying on my lips though, so i have to apply my Coffret D'or Lip Essence first, its a must! I got the last one, thanks SA Aaron! :)
Thats all folks! ;)

Battle of the Blush

I'm so happy with my blog post title. hahaha! As the title suggests, this post is dedicated to the super pretty blushers in the world of makeup. Let me share with you the TOP blushers i have found and seen, some i have bought, some i am coveting. hahaha!

First up, BeneFit's CORALISTA
My Photo

photo from BeneFit

I have this and i must say, its so pretty!  Coralista is a slightly sheer, coral-pink blush (duh) that makes you want to go on a vacation. LOL. but seriously, i think it will suit any skin tone and any hair color from blonde to redhead to brunette. It perks up your skin tone and it smells good too! The packaging is a box with a cute safari theme and inside you will find an ok brush which is not that soft, but it does the job. ;) Made in the USA (if that matters to you)

Next up is CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush in 99 Rose Pétale

This blush is a shimmery pink color which i think is perfect for creating that look which glows. it is very build-able and a little bit shimmery. i think this blush is perfect to wear when you go out on a date. Very pretty.

Swatch (Chanel Rose Petale)

MAC by Fafi in Fashion Frenzy

I've had this for a while now and it's one of my favorites, a cool pink blush which can give you that natural glow if you go light but can also give you intense color if you build it up because it is pigmented. A perfect pink blush + cutie patootie packaging = LOVE! hahaha
YSL Touche Blush in 01

photo from Sephora.com

What they say,
What it is:
A lightweight, loose powder blush that enhances the face with a sheer veil of color.

What it does:
Yves Saint Laurent TOUCHE BLUSH is a true beauty accessory, a makeup concept that transforms blush application into a moment of pure pleasure. The first of its kind to use this packaging, the "radiant touch" applicator allows for the use of ultra-fine powders to create a truly luminous, natural glow to the cheeks.

What else you need to know:The blush is formulated with long-lasting, stay-true pigments that provide a luminous and natural-looking flush to the cheeks, and work for all skin types.

Has anyone tried this YSL blush? Can you give me some details? Is it really long wearing? Is the sponge applicator easy to clean? haha :)

And lastly, the Shiseido Luminizer

I tried this at the store and i must say its so creamy and easy to blend, it doesnt dry out fast unlike some others. I'm still thinking about it. Any thoughts on this?
That's all, i hope I didn't bore you to death with this long post. :)
